Equipment changes the combat statistics used against enemies such as Chicken. The chosen Attack Style determines which combat skills gain experience.

In Bank, select a weapon and use Equip Item once its equipment requirements are met. Open Combat, then Combat Areas, and choose Farmlands.

Press Fight beside Chicken to start combat. Other areas check their own entry requirements. In Equipment, choose the Attack Style for the skill you want to train.
