  1. As you walk back into Azamire, you feel a swell of pride at the number of newly constructed buildings. They're small, and you hardly takes you long to count them on two hands, but still, Azamire is rebuilding, bit by bit. Your delight is interrupted by a shriek as you hear a... Golbin run by, chased by the newly appointed Militia Captain - Jass. The chase doesn't last long, and Gloob is held down while Jass berates it, talking about how she's no fool and knows a trap when she sees one.

  2. You

I see that things are going well.

  3. Gloob

SHE'S GOING TO EAT ME, PLEASE HELP!

  4. Jass

We're keeping you here because you were meant to help us, beast!

  5. Gloob

What I said was true! You should be able to sneak into the Ringleader's fortress at night, it'd be fine!

  6. Gloob

The guards have wood for brains! You'll see what I mean!

  7. Jass

We'll do no such thing! We ought to string you up for what your little pack did to Ana!

  8. You

    What's happening, exactly?

  9. Jass

This beast, is trying to get us to sneak into its boss's hideout tonight. Says all the Golbins will be out escorting a shipment.

  10. You

    A shipment of...

  11. Gloob

...humans. That's what the Ringleader wants from all of the Golbin tribes he subjugates!

  12. Gloob

I told you that when you saved me from that group days ago!

  13. Jass

What do you mean, saved you?

  14. Gloob

I'm... little. Never been useful for much, the other Golbins said. Too 'so-fist-uh-cated', they'd say.

  15. Gloob

They were going to tie me up and try to put me in one of the shipments, too, since I wanted to 'act like a human'.

  16. Jass

And why the blazes would they do that?

  17. Gloob

Because if a tribe doesn't pay up with enough people, the Ringleader takes his tithe in other ways. Turns us into ents.

  18. Gloob

Something about needing a creature's lifeforce. But I wasn't even ever part of that tribe, I got outcast from my own years ago.

  19. You

And then they captured you again sometime after the Ringleader took over?

  20. You

Why were you in the group that attacked us, then?

  21. Gloob

One of the Golbin's fancied himself a knight and wanted to use me as a squire. Carry his weapons n' stuff.

  22. Gloob

We don't even have knights. But everyone thought it was funny, so they let him until it was going to be time to lump me in with a shipment.

  23. You

So... You've never even hurt a person?

  24. Gloob

No! I even traded with some of your people up north. I would make stuff, then sell it for books. I learned lots.

  25. You

    Jass... A moment?

  26. Jass

You believe this little green booger, don't you?

  27. You manage to pull Jass aside long enough to get her to calm down. She apologies, first to you, then even to Gloob, and says that when she learned that they were capturing people to 'send them somewhere' it sent her over the edge. She asks Gloob to fill you in on what he told her. Every full moon, a bunch of robed figures end up coming to the Ringleader's fortress within the Elder Grove. They come with large, wooden wagons, and leave with people that the surrounding Golbin tribes have captured. He goes on to say that the Golbins at the fortress leave with the robed figures, escorting them... wherever they go, he doesn't know. With the nearing full-moon, it'd be a great chance to get a peek into the fortress, and that he'd even go, but that he'd need some climbing gear and hooks to scale the fort's outer wall. Either hopefully or foolishly, you decide to trust him, and he details how he'd go about making the equipment. You and Jass decide it'd be good to bring Companion Name along as well, and that they'd go over Gloob's memory of the fort to plan the scouting mission while you make the gear.

  1. You, Gloob, and Companion Name set off into the Misty Thicket on the night of the full moon. Gloob brings you through the woods quickly, and it's tough to keep up with his speed. You and Companion Name find yourselves huffing and puffing just outside of the Ringleader's Fortress. In the moonlight, you all see a train of wagons and hobgolbins heading to the north along an old dirt road, but quickly lose track of it as they slip into the dense thicket. With them gone, the three of you use the gear you prepared and scale the walls, landing quietly on the other side. Gloob brings you to several spots throughout the relatively open grounds. A small, ramshackle prison, with several ents patrolling just outside. You pass by a handful of sleeping areas for the fort's living guards, until you reach a large wooden hut Gloob says is the Ringleader's home. Finally, he leads you to a stockpile of various bits that a Golbin would find valuable, taken as tribute or looted from nearby towns. Hides, half-rotten food, weapons and armor, gold, and most notably, dozens upon dozens of caskets of flammable oil and booze. You and Companion Name wait for Gloob to lead you into an ambush, but the trap never comes. True to his word, once he finishes with the important parts of the fortress, the three of you scale back over the wall and head back to Azamire. When you return, you immediately begin talks with Jass about launching an assault on the fortress with what you've learned, and set plans into motion to get the town ready. Clearing a path to bring wagons to the fort, and securing an exit route for prisoners will be essential before launching an attack. Plus, it gives Jass more time to get her people ready, too.
